Old Town Cultural
and Historic Program

{Old Town Progam} The Old Town Cultural/Historical program is an integrated, week long, off-campus learning experience for all 4th graders in the District. The program extends the regular 4th grade course ofinstruction in social studies, in alignment with the history-social science framework for California publicschools.

Students participate in integration activities that support race/human relations. They experience field studies on location at the Old Town Historical State Park, Heritage Park, Presidio Park and community venues.

The Old Town program operates on an extended school year and serves more than 9,000 4th grade students annually. This fully inclusive program allows all students to take part in the outdoor learning experience.

Approximately 250 students, representing two or more schools, participate weekly. Specially trained staff instruct students groups that mirror the diversity of the city of San Diego’s population.
